SEVENTH TASK

How do you think we could empower our Colombian students to critically spot fake news?

It is believed that Colombian students are lack of critical thinking due to the fact that academic goals are related to an exam that will take place in the eleven grade, and it's called "ICFES" exam. Furthermore, students from the beginning of their academic life, they are preprogrammed to follow certain parameters whose purpose is to present that exam. So, it means that they are not encouraged to think critically. For the system is easier to keep people in control.

On one hand, teachers should do a lot of changes in the curriculum in order to help students to have a critical thinking about their context. According to McLaren, P. (p.74) " Curriculum... it represents the introduction to a particular form of life; it serves in part to prepare students for dominant or subordinate positions in the existing society." Taking this into account, students should have the opportunity and the access to other sources, in order to know different point of views from the same issue. On the other hand, the reality is different because of the manipulation in the social media, news, and so on.

In conclusion, a real change in Colombian students is that they should involve themselves in the context where they live, and also should not take everything for granted, because those things are developed due to the bias from people that they do not want a real change in that society. In addition, changes take time because it is a process, things are progressive so we just need to wait, be patients and look for others point of views.
